Taking over a broken fitness platform and completing the journey

Reserve King connects people looking for local fitness classes with studios and gyms that need a practical way to publish schedules, manage locations and accept bookings. We inherited an unstable, incomplete application in 2017, repaired what could be retained and completed the customer, provider and administration flows.

The brief we inherited

Reserve King already had a product idea and a partially implemented codebase, but important paths were broken or unfinished. Starting over would have discarded working pieces and delayed the business further. The first job was to understand what existed, separate usable foundations from fragile work and restore a dependable baseline.

From there, we completed the marketplace as one connected system: customers discover and reserve classes; providers manage locations, schedules and earnings; staff oversee people, categories, promotions, reviews and bookings.

Discovery and onboarding

The public experience serves both sides of the marketplace. Fitness seekers can search around the practical constraints of a class, while studios can understand the value of joining and provide the information needed to become bookable.

The customer journey

The account area carries a reservation beyond checkout. Customers can find the details they need before a class, see their schedule in more than one format and return to completed bookings to leave a review.

The provider workspace

For studios and gyms, the platform is an operating tool. Locations establish where a class can happen; schedules define when, for how much and for how many people; bookings, calendars, wallet entries and invoices show what followed.

The parts that were worth getting right

Search with useful constraints

Date, time, area, category, price and party size narrow the catalogue around a class someone can actually attend.

Availability stays honest

Search accounts for completed bookings before offering seats, keeping discovery connected to real class capacity.

One booking, many views

Confirmation, calendar, invoice, cancellation and review activity all refer back to the same reservation record.

Clear marketplace boundaries

Customers, providers and administrators see the tools and records appropriate to their part of the service.

The back office

Marketplace staff need to see across the boundaries that keep customer and provider accounts simple. The administration area brings customers, providers, locations, categories, promotions, reviews and every booking into one operational layer.

Engineering decisions worth explaining

Recover before replacing

We traced routes, data and incomplete screens first, preserving viable work while repairing the broken joins between them.

Treat schedules as live inventory

A class combines location, date, time, price, capacity and status; search only works when those fields remain one reliable unit.

Keep money tied to booking state

Discounts, fees, cancellations, wallet calculations and invoices follow the reservation lifecycle instead of operating as parallel records.

Separate the workspaces, share the truth

Each role gets a focused interface, while all three areas operate on the same providers, classes, locations and bookings.
